Hi there. Learning Chinese? You’re in the right place.

Slow Chinese 每周漫闻 is an entertaining weekly dose of interesting words, phrases and idioms from the week’s news for learners of Chinese who want to take their language skills to the next level.

What’s in the newsletter?

The newsletter is published weekly – every Saturday morning, around 9am (UK time).

It takes three news stories, highlighting interesting ‘words of the week’:

  • New words
  • Idioms
  • Colloquialisms
  • Slang
  • Internet and social media words
  • Business words
  • Philosophical references and poems

Through these ‘words of the week’, readers can improve their Chinese language ability, understanding and authenticity.

How can the newsletter help you?

Slow Chinese helps long-time learners of Chinese overcome their learning challenges, enabling them to…

  • Make time to learn.

Publishing at the same time every week helps you build a habit of putting aside a little time for reading and learning Chinese every week

  • Access engaging content.

Finding interesting stories from the week’s news that learners can talk about – in Chinese using authentic language!

  • Get motivated and inspired to learn new stuff.

Discovering colourful words, idioms, colloquial phrases and slang that you can actually use in your Chinese conversations – giving you a feeling of progress, satisfaction, achievement and occasionally inspiration.

Why is it called Slow Chinese 每周漫闻?!

Ok, I know it’s not the best name. But please stick with me..

As students of one of the most difficult challenges languages to learn, we want to go as quickly as possible – so why go slowly?

The thing is, in my view it’s impossible to learn Chinese quickly. There are no hacks; just hard, depressing slog.

But, with engaging and current content, I think it is possible to improve language skills more quickly and effectively.

So, I go slow so you can go quicker….

I take time to go deep into news stories of the week, finding and understanding new words, idioms and colloquialisms that are normally just skimmed over and not understood.

I share them in what I hope will be a quick and entertaining read for you every weekend.
